Why organic?

Great taste that is certified organic.

At Leclerc, great tasting ingredients take centre stage. Our organic products are no exception: GoPure products always taste great while providing all the advantages of certified organic ingredients.

Organic simply makes sense

Organic foods are produced and processed using techniques that minimize the impact on the environment.

In addition to ensuring farm-to-table traceability,* the organic inspection and certification system offers consumers who are mindful of their well-being guaranteed product authenticity.

Certified organic products leave all the space to the natural good taste of food. Why? Because the production and processing of organic foods is based on a set of techniques that exclude the use of:

  • chemical preservatives and irradiation (use of gamma rays, electron beams, or X-rays to prolong the life of food)
  • pesticides and synthetic chemical fertilizers
  • genetically modified organisms (GMOs)

Organic agriculture promotes the improvement of soil quality and fertility by adhering to rigorous production standards, such as:

  • the use of natural fertilizers, which help prevent drought and soil erosion
  • the use of beneficial insects, or the use of mechanical and manual methods, to control pests and weeds
  • crop rotation, which balances the distribution of nutrients in the soil, and controls pests.

A Natural ChoiceOrganic products favour the use of natural preservatives like salt, sugar, vinegar and lemon juice,** as well as natural fertilizers such as mulch, sulfur, compost, and manure.**

Organic methods privilege the use of renewable resources, recycling, or reduction of residual waste and energy consumption, to limit the impact on the environment.

By maintaining the wildlife habitats of threatened species and avoiding excessive deforestation, organic farming also aims to protect biodiversity and preserve our natural heritage.

Seals of quality

Choosing organic is also knowing what’s on your plate.
In Canada, organic food is well regulated. For example, all foods marked “organic” must be certified by a recognized organization, and independent audits are conducted annually to ensure compliance with current standards. All agricultural products labeled “organic” are regulated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).*

Our certifications

Use of the “Canada Organic” logo is only permitted on products containing 95% or more certified organic ingredients. Products bearing this logo must also comply with the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations and its organic certification system, the Canada Organic Regime. It regulates all parties involved in the certification of organic agricultural products and ensures that all applicable regulatory requirements, standards, and guidelines are met.

The use of the “Canada Organic” seal is authorized by the widely recognized Quality Assurance International (QAI) organization. This organization certifies that our products meet Canadian requirements for organic products (Canadian Organic Regime), and prohibits the use of genetic manipulation, ionizing radiation, and sewage sludge in organic agriculture.

The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization and its seal assures consumers that the product contains no genetically modified organisms (GMOs). It is the only independent verification and certification program in the country, ensuring transparency, objectivity, and rigour. For more information, visit the Non-GMO Project website.

The Facts About GMOsGMOs are plant or animal organisms whose genetic profile has been altered. This relatively new science fuses the DNA of various species to create combinations of animal, plant, bacterial, or viral genes that do not occur naturally, or that can be created using classical genetic methods.*
